After a long pause, we're back with the Visualing Data meetup. And very happy to be able to invite you for the sixth edition to a beautiful auditorium of the Bartlett School of Architecture at Here East.
Come talk and learn about data visualisation, design, and tech. We'll have some drinks and food as well.
There are following talks planned so far:
We talk a lot about visualising data to understand it, but how can data shape the places, services, things we make and use?
There are loads of qualitative and quantitative techniques we can use to understand the people we're making things for, and even more fascinating opportunities once you start watching them use what you've made.
This talk is all about how data molds the world around us.
Over the past twelve years, Gyorgyi has focused her research and design practice on studying invisible environmental pollutants and behavioural and technological approaches to reducing pollution in cities.
Borrowing insights from a variety of disciplines, her projects explore the effects of human activity on the environment and attempt to address the complex social, political and economic factors that engender and reinforce pollution-producing practices and behaviours.
In her presentation, she introduces a variety of representations and assumptions around climate change, air pollution, and behaviour change, and she introduces a new set of design qualities for urban technologies to enhance people’s agency in reducing pollution in cities.
Going beyond crowdsourced data sets and the passive observation of pollution (through sensors, data visualisations, and maps), she poses the question: how can we reframe the current narratives about air pollution, low-carbon, and low-pollution lifestyles to enable meaningful change? How does anyone of us address the complex environmental and societal challenges we face in the C21st?
Responsive websites and the “mobile first” mantra have been around for awhile, but what do they really mean for data viz practitioners? How can tiny screens be a helpful guide rather than a frustrating constraint?
I’ll explain how my team of visual journalists/developers stays focused on the story while crafting data visualizations for many platforms.
The staff from Market Cafe Magazine will also be there too with their infamous zine, so you'll have a chance to grab a copy of their latest issue.
