A second edition of the meet up with talks about data visualisation, hosted at Here East, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Beer, pizza and conversation.
Here's a little map to help you find the venue (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7oOn3nsh94nYTVYS3d6MFc4Tjg/view). The venue takes place in the Timber Yard reception next to the gigantic letter C. You can use Here East shuttle from Stratford to get right in front of the venue.
We have following talks planned so far.
If it looks, moves or sounds vaguely like a human being, we’ll treat it like a one. We name our cars and dress our pets. And I know for a fact that my computer hates me. Are there ways we can leverage human biases to design systems that are more relatable and easier to understand? And should we?
Melissa will share the story of how The Honeycomb, a visualisation she created for her team, evolved into a product that people pay for and ultimately a business. What is it that people value and what does that mean for the future of digital products?
Visualising data is ultimately about choosing the right representation that truthfully conveys the message. How can we fluently move through different levels of abstraction without completely losing the context and the larger picture? What is the boundary between dataviz and data art?
